Minutes of the 2010 Winter Meeting
Baton Rouge - Friday, January 29, 2010

President Linda Stewart-Knight called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm and welcomed members and guests. New members stood and introduced themselves. Linda thanked Baton Rouge Audubon Society with special thanks to Harriett Pooler and Jeffrey Harris for organizing the meeting and field trips and BRAS President Eric Liffman, field trip leaders Van Remsen, Eric Liffman, Harriett Pooler, Jeff Harris and Dennis Demcheck. Linda thanked Judith O’Neale, Joelle Finley, Ken Harris and Kay Radlauer for working the registration and sales tables.

Linda introduced the evening’s speaker, Dave Cagnolatti. Dave is the manager of state government affairs for ConocoPhillips, the largest private owner of wetlands in the US. Dave is a former board member of the Baton Rouge Audubon Society and a lifetime member of the LA Bluebird Society. He spoke on “An Amateur’s Perspective on Bird Photography”.

Jeff Harris announced Saturday’s field trips to St. Francisville, to Hummingbird gardens and to the LSU Museum of Natural Science.

Judith O’Neale drew for door prizes.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 pm.

President Linda Stewart-Knight called the meeting to order at 8:10 pm and welcomed members and guests. New members stood and introduced themselves. Linda thanked Baton Rouge Audubon Society with special thanks to Harriett Pooler and Jeff Harris and BRAS President Eric Liffman, field trip leaders Van Remsen, Eric Liffman, Jane Patterson, Jeff Harris and Dennis Demcheck. Linda thanked Judith O’Neale, Joelle Finley, Ken Harris, and Kay Radlauer for working the registration and sales tables.

Linda introduced the officers and board of directors of LOS: Linda Stewart-Knight, President, Ed Wallace, Vice-President, Judith O’Neale, treasurer, Joelle Finley, secretary, Nancy Menasco, Past-President, board members Joan Brown, Jackie Duncan, Curt Sorrels and LOS News editor Bob Hamilton. Linda introduced the speaker, Dr. Robb Brumfield, Curator of Genetic Resources at the LSU Museum of Natural Science and Associate Professor of Biology. Robb spoke on “The LSU Museum of Natural Sciences Genetic Resource Collection and its Application to the Study of Bird Evolution”.

Vice-president Ed Wallace called the check list. 102 species were seen.

Jeff Harris announced Sunday’s field trips to Richfield Riversilt and to the South Farm Complex.

Marty Guidry explained the Lowry Award and the President’s Award.

Judith O’Neale drew for door prizes.

Linda polled the members present as to whether they occasionally wanted to have spring or fall meetings in Grand Isle instead of always in Cameron. A few members wanted to occasionally go to Grand Isle. Linda announced the Spring Meeting will be held in Cameron April 23-24. The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 pm.
