Minutes of the 2009 Winter Meeting
Money Hill, Abita Springs - Friday, January 30, 2009

Nancy called the meeting to order at 7:25 P.M. and welcomed members and guests.

Nancy thanked the following: Linda Beall and the NorthShore Bird Club for organizing the meeting and field trips, field trip leaders, Judith O'Neale, Joelle Finley, Elouise Mullen and Joseph Vallee.

Nancy introduced the officers and board of directors of LOS: President Nancy Menasco, Vice-president Linda Stewart-Knight, Treasurer Judith O'Neale, Secretary Joelle Finley and past president Bill Fontenot (absent); board members Joan Brown, Jackie Duncan and Ed Wallace; Los News Editor Bob Hamilton (absent) and JLO editor Jim Ingold (absent).

Nancy introduced the evening's speaker, Dr Robert Diehl Assistant Professor at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He spoke on the use of Doppler weather surveillance radar to track migrating birds at night.

Nancy announced the field trips for Saturday.

Judith drew for door prizes.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.

President Nancy Menasco called the meeting to order at 7:40 P.M. and welcomed members and guests.

Nancy thanked those who worked to make the meeting a success: Linda Beall and the NorthShore Bird Club, the Goodyear family for allowing us to use the Club House at Money Hill, Chris the chef, Olga and Walter Clifton, field trip leaders, Judith O'Neale, Joelle Finley, Elouise Mullen and Joseph Vallee.

Nancy introduced the officers and board of directors of LOS: Nancy Menasco-President, Linda Stewart-Knight-Vice-President, Judith O'Neale-Treasurer, Joelle Finley-Secretary, Bill Fontenot-Past-President (absent), board members Joan Brown, Jackie Duncan, Ed Wallace and LOS News editor Bob Hamilton (absent) and JLO editor Jim Ingold (absent).

Jennifer Coulson announced that the Introductory Birding Class being taught by Orleans Audubon Society through Metropolitan College of the University of New Orleans will begin in March. Nancy introduced the speaker, Dr. Donata Henry. Donata spoke on the results gathered in the first four seasons of a MAPS (Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survival) station in the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area.

Ed Wallace called the check list- 127 birds were seen.

Nancy announced Sunday's field trips.

Judith O'Neale drew for door prizes.

Nancy announced that the spring meeting will be held in Grand Isle on April 17-18 in conjunction with the Grand Isle Migratory Bird Festival.

The meeting was adjourned at 9 P.M.
