Minutes of the 2008 Winter Meeting
Alexandria, Louisiana - Friday, January 25, 2008

President Nancy Menasco called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM. She welcomed members and guests and asked new members to stand and introduce themselves.

Nancy thanked the organizers of the meeting: Jackie Duncan, the Alexandria/Pineville Area Convention Visitors Bureau for helping to find the location and preparing goodie bags and gift donations, field trip leaders- Beth Willis, Steve Shively, Emlyn Smith, Jay Huner, Marty Floyd, Jim Johnson and Roger Breedlove, Sara Simmonds for providing hospitality and transportation for Steve Shunk, Tiny Moore for advice and expertise, Judith O’Neale for all of the things that she does, and Judith O’Neale, Joelle Finley, Elouise Mullen and Joseph Valle for working the registration and sales tables.

Nancy introduced the officers and board of directors of LOS: President Nancy Menasco, Vice-president Linda Stewart-Knight, Treasurer Judith O’Neale, Secretary Joelle Finley, Past-president Bill Fontenot and Board Members Joan Brown, Jackie Duncan and Ed Wallace. Also introduced were LOS News Editor Bob Hamilton and JLO Editor Jim Ingold (not present).

Nancy introduced the evening’s speakers. Laura Palasz presented her research on Henslow’s Sparrows in Louisiana and Jonathon Valente presented his research on King Rails in LA. Both Jonathon and Laura are graduate students at LSU in Baton Rouge.

Jackie Duncan announced the field trips for Saturday.

Marty Floyd drew for door prizes

The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 PM.

President Nancy Menasco called the meeting to order at 7:50 PM. She welcomed members, guests and new members were asked to stand and introduce themselves. Nancy introduced the evening’s speaker, Steve Shunk. Steve, the owner of Paradise Birding, spoke on “The Conservation and Ecology of Woodpeckers Locally and Range-wide, including the Red-cockaded Woodpecker”.

Vice-President Linda Stewart-Knight called the check list. 110 species were recorded including Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Sandhill Crane, Ross’ and Cackling Goose.

Marty Floyd drew for door prizes.

Jackie Duncan announced Sunday’s field trips.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM.
