LOS WINTER MEETING 1998 - BATON ROUGE
LOS Officers and Board Members would like to say "thank you" to everyone who helped to make the LOS winter meeting such a success. We had approximately 95 people registered for the weekend and around 70 attending both the Friday and Saturday night programs.
Both programs were very special events, Nancy Newfield showing some spectacular hummingbird slides on Friday night and John O'Neill took us on an expedition to Peru on Saturday night. Many thanks to Nancy and John.
Thanks also to the LSU people, especially Donna Dittmann, Steve Cardiff, Dan Lane and Josie Babin, who opened the museum for LOS members on Saturday and Sunday. It was a treat to visit and learn about the museum.
An award plaque was presented to Donna Dittmann for her many years of service as Secretary of the Bird Records Committee. Thank you, Donna, for a job well done!
A special "thank you" to Marty Guidry for his superb efforts in putting together some excellent field trips. Thank you to all the field trip leaders: Ron Rovansek, Mark Swan, Ron Stein and Marty. Thanks also to all of the people who invited us into their yards: Gene Street, Tom and Eloise Sylvest, Ron Stein, Susie Nowell, Anne Gregory, Donna Dittmann and Steve Cardiff, Van Remsen, Scott Knaus, 0.J. Williams, Mark Swan and John and Margaret Owens.
The checklist total on Saturday night was an impressive 133 species. Special birds seen from New Orleans to Lafayette were Henslow's Sparrow, Oldsquaw, Cinnamon Teal, Buff-bellied and Black-chinned Hummingbirds and Mountain Bluebird.
Thanks to all who attended this meeting and welcome all the visitors and new members who joined us.
