Allen’s Hummingbird was removed from the Review List 16 March 2013.
(1978-09; formerly 81-13). One adult female present throughout March 1978 and found dying 22 March (TSS, DBC, GLG, BMM, RJN, RDP) at the residence of K. McGee in New Orleans. Specimen (LSHMZ 86998) was examined by JVR and ARP. Eleven reddish-orange gorget feathers are present.
An adult female (1984-19; formerly 85-1) in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, present since 30 November 1984, collected (LSUMZ 121548) on 3 December 1984 (PM*; NLN). Found in the same well-tended "hummingbird haven" as the preceding Calliope Hummingbird.
One immature male (1984-10; formerly 87-27) on 7 Dec. 1984, East Baton Rouge: Baton Rouge. This record was submitted as a possible Allen's Hummingbird based on a brief observation of the bird's flight display. The display was suggestive of this species, but because of the brevity of the observation and the lack of a detailed plumage description, the supporting evidence does not warrant an identification to species. One immature male (1985-58; 86-51) on 7-12 Dec. 1985, East Baton Rouge: Baton Rouge. This record was withdrawn after the specimen (LSUMZ #126944) was re-examined by Thomas S. Schulenberg and identified as a Rufous Hummingbird.
One male completing its first prealternate molt (86-53) from 1-9 Mar. 1986, East Baton Rouge: Baton Rouge, 15533 Geraldine Drive; Paul M. McKenzie and Chuck Feerick (AB 40(2):291). This record was submitted as an immature present from 7 Dec. 1985 and molting to adult male plumage by 9 Mar. 1986. The immature was initially identified as a Rufous Hummingbird (S. rufus) by Nancy Newfield (banded- #X36757) on 8 Dec., at which time in-hand measurements corresponded to that species. On 2 Mar., McKenzie reported a bird performing a display "typical of Allen's Hummingbird." On 8 Mar., the bird had completed its prealternate molt and possessed a full gorget and entirely green back. Because the hummingbird was never recaptured to confirm band presence or number (McKenzie reported that the displaying bird possessed a band) or take further measurements, the Committee took a conservative view and only accepted the record for the date span during which the bird was observed performing the classic J-shaped "Allen's" display flight.
One adult male (87-25) on 8 Aug. 1987-end of February 1988; East Baton Rouge: Baton Rouge, 2755 Morning Glory; Peter E Scott, Miriam Davey, SJH, J & VL, MG, NLN, TAP, KVR, (AB 42(1):89 and AB 42(2):278).

One adult male (1988-32; formerly 89-7) on 24 Dec. 1988, East Baton Rouge: Baton Rouge, 1226 Glenmore (residence of Francis and Barbara Guglielmo); Paul McKenzie, JK, CK, BG. Muth (1989, p. 327) reported that this bird was present "from September (1988) to Feb. 15 (1989)."

One adult female (2001-091) on 31 December 2001, Lafayette: Lafayette, residence of Kay Drouant (banded on 10 January 2002, R38117; ph). This may well have been an Allen’s: all measurements except that of rectrix (R) #1 were within the range of Allen’s. However, because R1 was inconsistent with Allen’s, most Members chose to not accept because that inconsistent character could suggest a hybrid. Following a Discussion Round vote, only a minority of Members believed that measurements of R2, R5, and wing length were consistent with Allen’s and adequate to support identification as an Allen’s.
One immature female (2007-085) banded 2 January 2008, St. Tammany: Mandeville, 17190 Antenor. During the Discussion Round vote, Nancy L. Newfield discussed two identification keys used to identify in-hand Rufous and Allen’s hummingbirds. She also reviewed her banding data for this species. There are few acceptable records of immature female Allen’s documented for Louisiana. We discussed the utility of bander data, the importance of supporting photos showing scale/ruler, measurements alone as documentation, the possibility of mensural error (especially on the scale of a hummingbird), and in-hand measurements of a bird versus of those of removed feathers. Although the report stated that there were photos, these were never received by the Committee. A vote was taken and all (including Newfield) but two Members voted to accept; the record was not accepted.
One adult male (2009-008) banded (C05728) on 22 January 2009, Lafayette: Lafayette (ph). This record went to a Discussion vote at the 2019 Annual Meeting. This bird was identified as an Allen’s in the hand during banding and was overall typical of an adult male Allen’s in terms of plumage and measurements except for a notch on R2. Discussion centered on the notched R2 and whether this could be the result of individual variation versus hybrid ancestry. Ultimately, the potential hybrid hypothesis prevailed, with only one Member voting to accept.
One adult female (2009-007) banded (C05733) on 5 February 2009, Lafayette: Milton, residence of Elaine Bourque. This record went to a Discussion vote at the 2019 Annual Meeting. This bird was identified as an Allen’s in the hand during banding, measurements indicated that species except for an unusually wide central rectrix (R1), and the identification had been endorsed by Nancy L. Newfield. However, problematic for some Members were an apparent notch on R2 and the lack of a tail length measurement. Johnson argued that the notched R2 was likely a photographic artifact, but some Members were not swayed and believed the inconsistencies better pointed toward a potential hybrid. A vote was taken and four Members voted not to accept.
