with 300mm lens. |

close, but so well-hidden that distance was meaningless |

12. Duration of observation: about a second in the open perched, a few
seconds in flight, a few seconds of a shape shrouded by tangles |

13. Habitat: Very thickly vegetated lots in an area of
camps |

14. Behavior of bird /
circumstances of observation: Very elusive, showed itself for a
second as the flock of sparrows it was with shifted locations, then flew
across the street into a thicket in an oak cluster. I concentrated on snapping pcitures, hoping to get lucky and get an image. |

“rufous-sided” towhee, fairly dark-mantled, with more scattered white
spotting on mantle than on Eastern Towhee.
