13. Habitat: Chenier road through marsh; open area of dense
stalks of dead annuals (looked like ragweed) with scattered fallen limbs
fronting a live oak treeline. |

14. Behavior of bird / circumstances of observation: Responded to screech owl tape, approached quickly and moved around front edge of vegetation in clearing. At times, joined with female Eastern Towhee. |

15. Description: A “Rufous-sided” Towhee with spotted mantle. Dark brown mantled, with dark gray-brown hood. White tips to blackish greater and median coverts of upperwing forming dotted wingstripe. Large white stripes or spots on scapulars and tertials producing a punctuated mantle V, with smaller white spots and stripes on upper scapulars/and or mantle. Center of mantle appeared striped gray/darker gray. Tail dark-brown/blackish. White streak along leading edge of primaries. Lower edge of hood forming V on breast. Flanks and breast sides rufous, continuing onto undertail. Center of breast and belly to vent white. Small whitish/grayish supraloral spot. Legs medium dull pinkish. Bill with dark maxilla, paler mandible. Eyes reddish-brown. |
