variable, sometimes glary, but at times quite good

10x42 Eagle optics, very good condition

as close as 50-60 feet

several minutes at a time throughout the general observation period.

Habitat: 

a farm yard with fences, hay bales, barns, equipment, silos

Behavior of bird: 

mostly perched on fences, silos, etc. Occasionally sallied out, once to ground.

Description:

A phoebe size bird, obviously a flycatcher. Generally dirty gray above, darker on wings and head. Tail black, fairly long. Chin, throat and upper breast paler gray. Flanks and belly, lower breast a sort of cinnamon-rusty color. This individual was rather bright compared to some that I have seen.

Similar species:

Unique--absence of wingbars, facial pattern, and streaking underneath eliminate the vaguely similar Vermilion.
