complete sunlight no shade; bird on top of bare snag out in open no obstructions

Habitat: 

open wetland with tall shrubs

Behavior of bird: 

while walking on the trail beyond the trailer I noticed movement to my left; the bird was perched facing me on top of a bare snag about 75 feet from me; the bird stayed perched for about 20 seconds, then flew off; I watched it fly off with my binoculars and could see the pale rufous color under the wings; could not relocate the bird

Description: 

gray head, and throat; distinctive pale rufous belly and under wings; black tail, eye, and bill; no eye ring; about size of Eastern Phoebe; slender

Voice:

bird did not call

Similar species:

ruled out Eastern Phoebe because of pale rufous color on belly; ruled out female Vermilion Flycatcher because bird was larger, had a gray not white throat, and no streaking on breast
