bird(s): initially and finally about 100 yards, briefly down to about 20-30 yards |

13. Habitat: Fenced pasture in the middle of a small
group of houses. |

14. Behavior of bird /
circumstances of observation: Bird was first seen flying across field. It perched on a fence, then some trees,
made a quick trip near the road, then back to its distant spot. |

was actually seen, not what "should" have been seen; include
if possible: total length/relative size compared to other familiar species,
body bulk, shape, proportions, bill, eye, leg, and
plumage characteristics. Stress features that separate it from similar
species): A long-tailed phoebe, neutral pale dusty gray-brown on the back and
wing coverts, with darker brownish flight feathers, dark tail, darker cap. Chin
and throat paler gray than mantle, grading into pale salmon on breast, richer
but muted terra cotta undertail coverts.
Legs black, bill black. Flight
feathers edged contrastingly paler, weakish wing bar created by paler edgings
of greater coverts. Bird flycaught and spread and flicked
tail. |

they were eliminated by your observation): Eastern
Phoebe colored differently, female and young male Vermilion Flycatcher not as
long-tailed, with different color pattern.
