Buff-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia yucatanensis)

Buff-bellied Hummingbird was removed from the Review List 29 Apr 1988. The following records refer to LBRC-reviewed occurrences which took place during the species' tenure on the Review List.

Accepted Records

One (1965-02) from 25 Nov-30 Dec 1965, Orleans: New Orleans, Lake Vista subdivision, 14 Flamingo Street; Thelma von Gohren (card and ph) and D. Bruce Crider (assembled record). This represented the FIRST record of this species for Louisiana (Lowery 1974).

(1974-02; formerly 81-2). One adult collected 28 March 1974 by Marshall B. Eyster and Garrie Landry at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George DeSoto in Franklin, St. Mary Parish. Specimen (LSUMZ 95264) is first for Louisiana (see Lowery 1974, La. Birds, p. 405).

(81-11; formerly 1980-04). One adult female found dead 24 October 1980 by Nancy L. Newfield at Metairie, Jefferson Parish. Specimen (LSUMZ 97437) is second of two for Louisiana.

One (1978-02; formerly 81-16) at a feeder in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, during March 1978 (Tom Schulenberg; KM*[?--Editor], et many al.).

One male (1985-57; formerly 86-50) on 15-19 Dec. 1985, East Baton Rouge: Baton Rouge, 5256 Cumberland; Paul McKenzie, Chuck Feerick (LSUMZ #126940), J. V. Remsen, Joe Kleiman, Steven W. Cardiff, Donna L. Dittmann, Catherine Cummins, Peter E. Scott, D. Bruce Crider, Lucille Hendrick, M. Mark Swan, Joan Feerick, Dudley Harrington, Steve Hope, Miriam Davey, Kenneth V. Rosenberg, John A. Gerwin, Tristan J. Davis. The bird was found dead after a hard freeze. Muth (1986, p. 291) reported that the bird was first observed on 7 Dec. 1985.

One (1987-066) on 24 October 1987, Cameron: Hackberry Ridge, 2 mi. WSW Johnsons Bayou School; Michael J. Musumeche. This species was removed from the Review List 28 April 1988.

Unaccepted Records

One (1974-021) winter 1974-1975, Orleans: New Orleans, 4815 Kenner Street. This record was submitted to the LBRC by an LBRC Member in 1981. The ‘historical long form’ included published citations for American Birds but no actual description (one citation was incorrect). Members likely hoped that the observer would provide documentation however, no documentation was ever forthcoming including from one of the LBRC Members who saw this bird. The record is published in LBRC 1974-021 (cont.) Lowery (1974); and the CBC issue AB28(2); and AB29(3):702, “Buff-bellied Hummingbird was seen for the second consecutive year in Louisiana -- this time on the New Orleans CBC.” Buff-bellied Hummingbird was removed from the Review List on 29 April 1988.
