Duration of observation:

Habitat:

beach

Behavior of bird:

The bird came flying from the north, moving directly south towards the gulf.  I

noticed it because of the strong southerly winds that all other birds were fighting against while

this one plowed through it

Description:

The bird had a long, dark slender bill with a dark crown. The nape was light with

traces of buff on it and around the neck/upper chest.  The back and wings were dark with white

patches on the primaries and white primary shafts.  The rump was mostly dark with a light buff area

at the base of the tail.  The tail dark with fairly long, wispy T1.  The underbelly was white with

the sides lightly barred with black.

Voice:

none heard

Similar species:

Long-tailed is smaller, more delicate and less white shafts on the primaries.  A

Pomarine is bulkier with a larger bill and would have different retrices.
