Good lighting (mid-day); partly cloudy.

(Tom); 20x-60x Brunton scope (Mary)

50’ to 60’ away.

12. Duration of observation:

At least 15 minutes.

13. Habitat:

Wet area with puddles and some grass and mud/dirt; not far from beach area.

14. Behavior of bird / circumstances of observation (flying, feeding, resting; include and

At rest on ground; facing into the wind (windy).

include if possible: total length/relative size compared to other familiar species, body

bulk, shape, proportions, bill, eye, leg, and plumage characteristics. Stress features that

separate it from similar species):

Very small gull, smaller than BOGU and FOTE-- near LAGUs, BOGU and FOTEs for

comparison (size/plumage). Dark cap; dark, very small, straight bill; dark strip along

folded wings; gray above, white below; yellow or flesh-colored legs.

Silent/none heard.

17. Similar species (include how they were eliminated by your observation):

Bonaparte’s Gull; some terns. See notes in #15.
