My wife, pet miniature schnauzer and I were driving down Hwy 82. We spotted the large gull sitting on the beach. We stopped, backed up and took some pictures. We had no idea of what type gull this was.

Light conditions on 8/21/2009 @ 7:30 AM were fine as you can see in the images. The skies were overcast.

30 yards

Duration of observation:

We watched the great black backed gull for about 10 minutes, took some pictures and left. The gull remained.

Habitat: 

Gulf of Mexico beach

Behavior of bird: 

The Great Black Backed Full was feeding on a fish (see image) that washed up on the beach.
