10. Optical equipment (type, power, condition): 10 x 42 Swarovski EL binoculars in good condition; Nikon D100 with Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 ED lens in good condition

12. Duration of observation: 10 minutes

13. Habitat: flooded impoundment with scattered herbaceous vegetation

14. Behavior of bird / circumstances of observation (flying, feeding, resting; include and stress habits used in identification; relate events surrounding observation): foraging, sometimes near Blue-winged Teal and Mallards, but then alone (not associating with a female)

Description (include only what was actually seen, not what "should" have been seen; include if possible: total length/relative size compared to other familiar species, body bulk, shape, proportions, bill, eye, leg, and plumage characteristics. Stress features that separate it from similar species):

Cinnamon-red duck with dark back and long back streamers, red eye, and heavy bill (intermediate between Northern Shoveler and Blue-winged Teal).

17. Similar species (include how they were eliminated by your observation): None.  Hybrid eliminated by all red head and large bill.

22. Are you positive of your identification if not, explain: Yes.  And I’m nearly certain no evidence of hybridization is apparent.
