and 1-2 minutes again that afternoon |

13. Habitat: Mostly open bare area with large chunks of
broken concrete and rubble. Bird was
seeking shelter and resting among the concrete. |

14. Behavior of bird / circumstances of observation (flying,
feeding, resting; include and stress habits used in identification; relate
events surrounding observation): Bird was initially observed by Heydi Lopes perched on concrete and rubble pile in an
empty open area just to the southeast of the Caminada
Bay bridge. Bird flew to other areas
of this pile and occasionally hid from view among the broken pieces of
concrete. Photos were taken by Heydi Lopes and are included as part of this report. |

length/relative size compared to other familiar species, body bulk, shape,
proportions, bill, eye, leg, and plumage characteristics. Stress features
that separate it from similar species): Relatively small owl with long legs,
rounded headed and no ear tufts.

long legs, white throat and lack of ear tufts. |

several times on Grand Isle in 1980s, in southwestern Louisiana in 1990s and
