Coastal chenier, seen in large oaks, seemed to prefer clusters of dead branches.

Foraging. Flew across the woods after a brief time, was relocated, and soon flew again.

Melvin found us and told us about this bird. He brought us to it, but our looks were too brief. I looked at it mostly through my camera.

Description:

Warbler clearly belonging to “Yellow-rumped” group.

Blue-gray above, whitish below. Whitish eye crescents on blue-gray head. Head without pale supercilia. 2 distinct white wingbars. Yellow throat in a small patch constricted laterally by blue-gray auriculars and sides of throat. Yellow rump. Necklace on upper breast and sides of breast formed by streaks of dark blurry spots.

Voice:

Similar species:

“Myrtle” by yellow throat, head pattern.

Intergrade AUWA/MYWA possible, but strong influx of western birds on weekend of 4/24/2010 makes pure AUWA plausible.
