LOS 2013 AWARDS
 

2013 Dr. George H. Lowery Award:

The Louisiana Ornithological Society recognizes and honors DAVID PATTON on this 27th day of April 2013 for a lifetime of support to Louisiana’s birds and birding community. Since 2008, Dave has managed the Baton Rouge Audubon Society Peveto Woods Sanctuary. Through his dedication and voluntary efforts, the sanctuary has been revitalized after two devastating hurricanes. A federally-licensed Master Hummingbird Bander, Dave uses banding in researching the lives and habits of hummers passing through south central Louisiana. Dave unselfishly has served as President of the Louisiana Ornithological Society, member of the Louisiana Birds Record Committee, participant and compiler of numerous Christmas Bird Counts, participant in Beach Nesting, Bird Atlas, Breeding Bird and Near-shore Waterbird Surveys. Dave enthusiastically assists all birders he meets.

 

2013 LOS President’s Awards:

The Louisiana Ornithological Society recognizes and honors ROSEMARY SEIDLER on this 27th day of April 2013 for her many contributions to the Louisiana birding community. Rosemary has been an active birder in Louisiana for many years - participating in numerous Christmas Bird Counts, Breeding Bird Surveys and, the Summer-Winter Atlas Project where she developed essential coverage maps. She was President of the Louisiana Ornithological Society in 2002-2004 and has served as an Officer and Board Member of the Shreveport Bird Study Group for many years. Rosemary conceived and developed the Louisiana Parish Bird Checklist Series and currently maintains it. This project enhances our knowledge of the distribution of birds within Louisiana and aids the birding experience of local and visiting birders in each parish.

The Louisiana Ornithological Society recognizes and honors PAUL CONOVER on this 27th day of April 2013 for his many contributions to the Louisiana birding commnunity. Paul is a long-standing member of the Louisiana Bird Records Committee. He developed and maintains the LBRC online submittal and review website to aid birders in documenting rare or unusual birds in Louisiana. Paul encourages young birders in their yearning to learn more about Louisiana’s avifauna and shares his knowledge and experience with them. He is active on the listserve LABIRD - often stimulating discussions among birders. Paul participates in many Louisiana birding events including the Summer-Winter Bird Atlas Project, Christmas Bird Counts, Beach Surveys and Breeding Bird Surveys. His enthusiasm for birds and birding is evident as he shares his expertise with local and visiting birders.
